One Noble Journey written by Dixie Phillips and illustrated by Kim Sponaugle, is a children's book which both emphasizes a very valuable moral lesson and embodies Christian religious beliefs. The story of two girls separated by the cultures of rich and poor in a tiny village become unlikely best friends, one the daughter of a count and the other a poor orphan girl. The count disapproves of his daughter's friendship with this poor, lowlands girl but soon a misadventure involving a wayward raccoon closes the gap between these two cultures and teaches that "all are equal at the foot of the cross"!
Dixie has been a pastor's wife for over 30 years and her love for writing plays for children evolved into writing children's books! She has also written award-winning devotional books, poetry, and works for Randall House as a topical curriculum writer. She knows how to develop complex religious material into something understandable and comprehensive for children of all ages!
I am a great believer in moral lessons for children and though I find the religious concept a bit daunting One Noble Journey handles the religious context well with a very relatable example for children. My 7 year old daughter truly enjoyed the book while I believe my 5 year old, who loved the raccoon, lost a bit of interest near the end.
If you are in search of a unique Christian children's book which promotes love and acceptance and explains the unconditional acceptance Jesus has for all you really must pick up a copy! This book would also be a wonderful addition to Sunday school classes, and church libraries and is a great holiday tale!
