I am many things, I am a blogger and educator, an artist and writer, and most importantly a wife and a mother. Most women are many things and they are many things to the people who love them and rely on them. Women are the givers of life and often spend their time caring for others unselfishly without consideration for themselves. Women must be empowered to take care of themselves, to view themselves and their health as vital and important. Women need to be empowered and as a mother of two girls it means the world to me to empower my daughters to understand and care for their bodies.
The Yellow Umbrella Organization was formed to spread the word about a significant threat to the health of women--cervical cancer! Rocker and cervical cancer survivor, Christine Baze decided her fight against cervical cancer was more than an individual one. Her discovery? cervical cancer is preventable if you use the right tools and she has made it her mission to “Save the Hooch”!
I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials. You may already be aware that cervical cancer is caused by a very common virus HPV--that’s the human papillomavirus. What is hard to fathom is that most women (80% of all women by the age of 50) will contract HPV despite the fact that most will not develop cervical cancer. No woman however wants to become a statistic and prevention is empowering. There are steps that can be taken to help protect yourself:
~ Ages 9 to 26 ~ Can get the HPV vaccine
~ By age 21 get the liquid Pap test
~ Age 30 and up ~ get an HPV test with your liquid Pap
Working under the same umbrella to remind women of the three steps to “saving your cervix” Baze has teamed up with well-known makeup artist Debra Macki. Macki has produced an amazing 3 shade mineral eye shadow palette. Silky smooth, rich in colour enclosed in a stylish silver mirrored “Yellow Umbrella” case as you beautiful your outside you will keep in mind the importance of caring for your inner beauty as well!
