O'Bon Review and Giveaway!

I spent 13 years as a student, 5 more years as a university student, and about six years as a teacher! Imagine the forest of trees which supplied my education and the education of my pupils with paper and pencils!! I am an amateur artist, crafter, and writer so I continue to consume paper and as a mother of three I also am responsible for supplying my children with the tools of education.
Imagine every minute, an area of rainforest the size of 20 football fields combined is cut down, partly due to the creation of conventional wood pencils. O'Bon has found a way to change this by creating a quality pencil out of recycled newspapers. These pencils are superior to the traditional wooden pencil. I was sent a set of O'Bon Wildlife series pencils. These pencils are created through a special process which wraps recycled newspaper around a graphite core. I love the smooth texture of the pencil barrel. As you sharpen one of these pencils you can actually see the layers of paper. Upon examining the pencil shavings I could still see the newsprint! O'Bon pencils come in 2B and HB as well as professional sets of various grades of hardness. They are also produced in a variety of striking patterns! What would we do with pencils without paper to write on? If O'Bon is creating pencils out of recycled newspaper what do you suppose O'Bon notebook paper is created of? You may not have heard of Bagasse but from now on you can add this word to your known vocabulary! Bagasse is essentially the pulp of sugarcane. Yes, "sugarcane paper"! Like bamboo in clothing manufacturing sugarcane is a plant which grows like a weed. It requires little fertilizer and pesticides and creates little wear and tear on the earth. I received a beautifully designed 80 bagasse page notebook. I openned my "Less Footprint" notebook to find high quality paper. The sugarcane paper was reasonably thick and had a lovely smooth texture. You would never know the difference between bagasse paper and traditional high-quality note paper. O'Bon is certainly "something different" but also something fabulous! O'Bon also carries binders made of recycled cardboard, folders, and pencil crayons. I will be purchasing O'Bon supplies for my children knowing my conscience is a little clearer!
